Civil Engineering

Civil engineering is considered as one of the oldest engineering disciplines. The study involves planning, designing and executing structural works. The profession deals with a wide variety of engineering tasks including designing. supervision and construction activities of public works like roads, bridges, tunnels, building, airports, dams, water works, sewage system, ports etc. and offers a multitude of challenging career opportunities.

Civil engineering is perhaps one of the most traditional forms of engineering streams that has branched to numerous specialisations - thanks to increased application of a number of other
engineering faculties such as computer science. Basically dealing with design, construction and maintenance of physical and naturally built environment that includes roads, bridges, canals, dams
and buildings, today it encompasses environmental engineering, geophysics, control engineering, structural engineering, biomechanics, earth and atmospheric science, etc.

Duration: 4 Years

Eligibility for Admission :

Pass in 10+2/ Higher Secondary (HS) / Pre University (PUC) / 'A' Level (with 12 years) or its equivalent with English as one of the language. Shall have secured a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate in Physics. Mathematics and any one of the following : Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Electronics, Information Science.

Career Scope  :

A civil engineer is responsible for planning designing and construction. The planning part of their work involves site investigation, feasibility studies, creating solution to complication that may occur and the actual designing of structures. They may prepare cost estimates and set construction schedules. Construction works involves dealing with clients, architects, government officials, contractors and the supervision of work according to standards. Their work also involves the maintenance and repair of the project. The major specialization within civil engineering are structural, water resources, environmental, construction, transportation , geo-technical engineering etc. On most projects, civil engineers work in teams or in coordination with many other engineers. They can find work as a supervisor of a construction site or a managerial position concerns. They can also work as independent consultants
